The Man Behind California’s “3 Strikes” Law – Douglas Walker

In the late 1990s, newspapers were filled with stories of men and women in California who were sentenced to life in prison for misdemeanor offenses. The most well known case involved Jerry Williams, the man who received 25-years-to-life for stealing a single slice of pizza. These strict prison sentences came because of the “3 Strikes and You’re Out” law. A law that was pushed to California voters in 1994 because of a man named Douglas Walker.
